FEAR NOT - Day 3

What Controls Your Mind?

Fear has a way of hijacking your mind. One anxious thought becomes ten. One bad report becomes a disaster. Fear fills the imagination with worst-case scenarios until our thinking becomes consumed by negativity, worry, and dread.

That’s why what we allow to control our minds matters.

Paul writes this instruction to believers in Philippians 4:8.

Philippians 4:8 — Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable... think about these things.

Paul understood something important: our thoughts shape our perspective, and our perspective influences our peace.

Fear thrives in minds constantly fed by panic, outrage, comparison, and hopelessness. The mind was never designed to constantly carry the weight of endless negativity. What controls your thoughts will eventually influence your emotions, decisions, and spiritual health.

This does not mean we ignore reality or pretend life is easy. It means we intentionally direct our minds toward truth instead of allowing fear to dominate every thought.

Notice Paul begins with “whatever is true.” Fear often feeds on assumptions, exaggerations, and imagined outcomes. God calls us back to truth.

Sometimes the battle against fear begins by asking simple questions:
Is this thought true?
Is this thought helping me trust God?
Is this thought leading me toward peace or deeper anxiety?

You cannot always control every thought that enters your mind, but you can choose which thoughts are allowed to stay.

Reflection:
What thoughts have been controlling your mind? Are they leading you toward fear or toward the truth and peace of God?

Prayer:
Father, help me guard my mind and focus my thoughts on what is true and life-giving. When fear tries to control my thinking, remind me of Your truth and faithfulness. Teach me to reject thoughts that pull me deeper into anxiety and help me fix my mind on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
