FEAR NOT - Day 12

Fear or Faith
Fear and faith battle over control of your heart. When life becomes unstable, we tend to lean toward one or the other. Fear focuses on the size of the storm. Faith focuses on the presence of God within it. Sometimes we lean in the right direction and sometimes we don’t.
In Mark 4, the disciples experienced this tension firsthand.
Mark 4:39-40 — And he awoke and rebuked the wind... ’Peace! Be still!’... Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?
The disciples were experienced fishermen, yet this storm terrified them. Waves crashed into the boat, water filled the vessel, and panic took over. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep.
To the disciples, it appeared as though Jesus was unconcerned about their situation. Fear convinced them they were about to perish. But Jesus had never lost control of the storm for a single moment.
How often do we respond the same way?
When storms rise in our lives — financial pressure, health struggles, anxiety, uncertainty, relationship pain — fear immediately begins speaking. It magnifies the waves until they seem greater than God Himself.
Faith, however, reminds us that the presence of Jesus changes everything.
Notice Jesus did not condemn the disciples for encountering a storm. He questioned why fear had become greater than their trust in Him.
Faith does not mean storms disappear instantly. Faith means believing God remains sovereign while the storm is still raging.
Fear says, “You’re going under.”
Faith says, “Jesus is still in the boat.”
The storm may be loud, but Christ is greater.
Reflection:
What storm in your life is currently testing your faith? Have you been focusing more on the waves around you or the Savior beside you?
Prayer:
Father, when fear rises like a storm in my life, help me trust You more deeply. Remind me that You are present, powerful, and fully aware of what I am facing. Teach me to walk by faith instead of being controlled by fear. Calm my heart and strengthen my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
