FEAR NOT - Day 11

The Lord Is My Shepherd

Fear is a trap. We try to control life in order to create more stability. Ironically, controlling outcomes leads to fear which often makes life feel unstable. The future feels uncertain, emotions become overwhelming, and we begin searching for security in things that cannot truly sustain us. In those moments, Psalm 23 reminds us that our peace is not found in controlling life, but in being led by the Shepherd.

David begins the psalm with these well-known words:

Psalm 23:1 — The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

A shepherd guides, protects, provides, and stays near to the sheep. Sheep are vulnerable animals. They are easily frightened and prone to wander. Yet their safety is found in staying close to the shepherd.

The same is true for us spiritually.

Fear grows louder when we drift from the voice and presence of God. Anxiety increases when we try carrying responsibilities and burdens apart from His leadership. But Psalm 23 reminds us that we are not abandoned to figure life out alone.

The Shepherd leads beside still waters. He restores souls. He walks with us through dark valleys. He protects us even when enemies surround us.

Notice David does not place confidence in the absence of trouble. His confidence is in the presence of the Shepherd.

Fear says, “You are vulnerable and alone.”
Truth says, “The Lord is my Shepherd.”

When fear rises, we must remind ourselves who is leading us. The Shepherd is not confused, absent, or overwhelmed by what you are facing today. He sees the path ahead clearly and promises to walk with you through it.

Reflection:
In what areas of life have you been trying to lead yourself instead of trusting the Shepherd? How might fear lessen if you truly rested in God’s guidance and care?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for being my Shepherd. When fear and uncertainty rise in my heart, help me stay close to Your voice and trust Your leadership. Remind me that You are guiding, protecting, and sustaining me even when life feels unstable. Teach me to rest in Your care and follow You with confidence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
