FEAR NOT - Day 10
![]()
Courage Is Not the Absence of Fear
Courage does not mean you will never experience fear. We picture courageous people as fearless, confident, and completely unshaken by difficulty. But Scripture paints a different picture. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is the decision to move forward in faith despite fear.
When Joshua prepared to lead Israel into the Promised Land after Moses’ death, he faced overwhelming responsibility, uncertainty, and opposition. God knew Joshua would battle fear, which is why He repeatedly told him this:
Joshua 1:9 — Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Notice God did not say, “Joshua, there is nothing to fear.” There were very real battles ahead. Instead, God reminded Joshua of what mattered most: “The Lord your God is with you.”
True courage is rooted in God’s presence, not personal confidence.
Fear says, “You are not capable.”
Faith says, “God is with you.”
Some of the strongest people are not those who never struggle internally, but those who continue obeying God while feeling afraid. Courage often looks like taking the next faithful step when emotions are uncertain.
Fear wants to paralyze you. God calls you to trust Him enough to keep moving forward.
You may not feel fearless today, but you can still be courageous. Strength is not found in pretending fear does not exist. Strength is found in trusting God in the middle of it.
Reflection:
What fear has been holding you back from moving forward in faith? What would courage look like for you in this season?
Prayer:
Father, help me understand that courage is not the absence of fear, but trusting You in the middle of it. When fear tries to paralyze me, remind me that You are with me wherever I go. Strengthen my heart to walk forward in obedience, confidence, and faith even when the path feels intimidating. In Jesus’ name, amen.
